FAQs
Fitness & Participation
-
Our packages are designed for any active individual who has participated in multi-hour hikes and exercises regularly. We are a “pack hike” multi-day guided tour, meaning you will carry your own full pack (up to 18kg) with your personal gear and food. The terrain is hilly and uneven so think of it as a rewarding challenge!
Our guides aren’t the world’s ‘fittest’ humans and have not done cross continental hikes, or trail runs of 100km; they simply enjoy getting out often and embracing adventure. -
We genuinely value comradery and laughs over bragging about walk times or peaks made. We will try to pick a pace that is comfortable for everyone in the group, and there will be plenty of other things to talk about and look forward to over ‘how fast we made it to camp’. We do ask that you have a certain level of general fitness so that you enjoy the experience and avoid unnecessary injury, but this is not at all about how fast you can walk.
-
Although we have attempted to pick accessible routes, our trips involve multi-hour walking with a pack over undulating, and unpaved tracks. Due to the risks, we do require all guests to complete a medical questionnaire which will be reviewed by our in-house doctor and you may require a medical clearance from your GP or Physiotherapist (if a musculo-skeletal condition) to participate. In saying this, our focus is not on ‘smashing km’s, or making strict times, and so we are happy to walk at an enjoyable pace for all.
-
We have a minimum age limit of 18 and no maximum age. We ideally want a group of women that are easily enthused, love to laugh, keen to learn something new and are open to making new friends of all ages!
Gear & Equipment
-
Not much! We will supply a tent (shared), sleeping mat, sleeping bag, backpack and cooking equipment. We will ask that you supply a sleeping bag liner (approx $30) and and waterproof jacket +/- pants, and a small fold-up day pack.
Committing to purchasing your own gear can sometimes feels overwhelming, but trust us - you’re going to leave wanting more!

We would LOVE you to bring your own gear. Given Tasmania’s temperamental climate, and the risk of cold and wet conditions (even in summer) we will need to check your gear for the temperature rating and integrity. If it fits the bill you will have a $100 discount on your trip.
We recognise that you may have some of your own gear - backpack, sleeping bag, mat etc. These need to be of an appropriate standard for the temperamental Tasmanian climate and the trails on which we operate. If you intend to bring your own gear, the items and specs will need to be sent to us via email for assessment.
Please note. We have strict tent limits for our camp sites, as per Tasmania Parks Direction, so if we have a full trip we may still have to ask that there are two people/tent even if you are bringing your own.
Weather & Conditions
-
We’ll be honest - you’ll probably feel a bit cold, but we’re going to make sure you’re comfy. Coastal hikes during the Spring/Summer/Autumn season are mostly mild but alpine hikes you can have beautiful sunny days one day and then snow the next (this is all part of the fun might I add). Weather reports will always be closely watched, we will prepare and pack for that weather and in the unlikely event the weather is deemed unsafe then we will follow our procedures in that case….
The average minimum, and maximum temperatures anticipated during our operational season, October - April are:
Coastal: average min 5 degrees / average max 22 degrees.
Alpine: average min 1 degree / average max 17 degrees. Our packing lists and supplied gear should ensure comfort for these temperatures, and check out our blog post ‘Tips & Tricks for Staying Comfy in the Cold – From a Northern Queensland Girl’ for some tricks to staying cosy. Remember we are both originally from Queensland and ____

It’s Tasmania - the weather is going to play up - but we are ready for that! The gear we supply will keep you comfortable in the expected normal limits of summer hiking in Tasmania (we are talking down to 0 degrees), but if it gets out of those ranges we will be acting quickly. We have a strict risk mitigation and management plan which outlines ‘trigger points’ at which we may need to change plans. We have no interest in taking first time overnight hikers out in heavy snow, bitter cold, strong winds or extreme heat - it’s not enjoyable and it’s not safe!
If the weather is looking hairy we will check the forecasts in some other areas we have permission to hike and change our route to somewhere that is safe. For example: if it is due to be -5 degrees at The Walls of Jerusalem, but Freycinet is sunny and 13 degrees, for the dates of a proposed trip, we will change the trip to Freycinet Fun.
We will give you as much notice as possible, but it will be very rare that we won’t be able to offer an alternative trip/route/experience.
We encourage you to lean into this part of the adventure. It is the reality of hiking and we have personally had to change our plans sooo many times before, and often these trips have turned into the ones that are the most FUN anyway.
In the event that an extreme weather event is not forecasted and occurs on the trail, we have strict emergency protocols, two-way emergency communication devices, and safety gear to keep us safe.
Food & Dietary Requirements
-
Our pre trip dinner will always be at a restaurant which caters for dietaries. Our simple but delicious camping meals will have options to suit dietaries including GF, DF, nut/seed free, vegetarian and vegan. Please contact us directly if you have any other dietaries and we will try our best to accommodate them.
Group Bookings & Participation
-
You certainly can if there are spots available. However, If you are a group of above 4 please contact us to discuss options.
Why you might ask? If you are a group of 5 and it's a 6 guest trip we would need to check in with the solo traveller to see if it suits them. In this case we might be able to create a personal trip for just your group. See our ‘Custom Tour’ page.

At this stage we are only offering trips to those who identify as female for a number of reasons. These include and are not limited to the necessity to tent share and provide a safe and judgement free space for women to learn. Should this change in the future, we will always be keeping people up to date via socials and our website.
Safety & Emergencies
-
All our guides are wilderness first aid trained. We have comprehensive emergency and incident management protocols, which we will follow on trail and each guide will carry a well stocked and maintained first aid kit. Some injuries/incidents may be able to be managed on trail, others may require an adjustment of our route, and others an emergency evacuation. We are lucky to walk in a country with access to emergency services, including an air ambulance, in the event of a life or limb threatening injury. Our guides will carry PBL and satellite phones to access these services. You are welcome to carry your own first aid kit and/or emergency communication device and we do ask that everyone has travel insurance, including ambulance cover.
