Come hike in Freycinet National Park with us! We’ll show you the ropes (and the best views) so you can fall in love with overnight hiking and head home ready to chase down every trail you’ve ever dreamed of.
If you could only choose one coastal hike to do before you die, we think this might just be it. Freycinet is the perfect blend of turquoise bays, white sand beaches, and rugged pink granite peaks; everything Tasmania is famous for wrapped into one unforgettable loop. Anyone who’s ever researched Tassie knows the view of the towering Hazards above Wineglass Bay, but not everyone gets to experience the full magic of the peninsula on foot.
As Freycinet is a peninsula, our exact route can vary depending on the winds and weather at the time so we’ll always choose the safest and most fun option closer to departure. Our default plan kicks off with a walk out to Cooks Beach, taking us away from the busiest parts of the national park to camp by the ocean. The next morning, we swap to day packs and enjoy that freedom with a side trip to Bryans Beach, a secluded slice of paradise, before shouldering our full packs again and continuing on to Hazards Beach Campground for our second night, with afternoon treats by the water. An early rise sees us crossing the Isthmus to Wineglass Bay for breakfast and a morning swim before looping back to the van for our return to Hobart - tired, stoked and potentially salty.
*We have the option to head up Mount Freycinet but this is a significant side trip which we’ll chat about at the time pending conditions, timings and vibes.
